Kathmandu- Bollywood Actress Nora Fatehi is scheduled to appear before the National Women’s Commission (NCW) today, Thursday, amidst controversy over the depiction of women as obscene and objectionable in the song ‘Sarke Chunar’ from the film ‘KD The Devil’.
In compliance with the notice issued by the commission, Nora is set to appear at the commission’s office for a hearing at 11:30 AM today. Previously, when summoned by the commission, Nora had informed that she was out of the country and requested another date.
Last month, actor Sanjay Dutt had also appeared before the commission in connection with the same controversy. The National Women’s Commission, headed by Vijaya Rahatkar, expressed serious concern over the obscenity and inappropriate portrayal of women in the song during the hearing, questioning its intent, vigilance, and accountability.
During that time, Sanjay Dutt expressed regret for the unintended impact on society and apologized in writing. As a form of penance, he also pledged to bear the educational expenses of 50 tribal girls, contributing to social welfare and women’s empowerment.
Following the release of the Hindi version of this controversial song on YouTube on March 15, the public strongly protested and expressed outrage over its sexually suggestive lyrics. Due to public pressure and criticism, the production house removed the Hindi version from YouTube, although the song is still being shared on various other social media platforms.
The lyricist, singer, and director of this song have already apologized in this controversy. ‘KD The Devil’ is originally a Kannada film, which has been dubbed into four languages, including Hindi.
Meanwhile, actress Nora Fatehi has attempted to distance herself from the Hindi version of this song. She claims that she only shot for the Kannada version and that her permission was not taken to use that video in the Hindi version.
It is anticipated that Nora will present her clarification on this matter during today’s commission hearing.
