Kathmandu. Two women who have garnered attention in the beauty and modeling sectors have become members of the House of Representatives. Former Miss Nepal Anushka Shrestha and model and media personality Rima Bishwakarma have become federal MPs from the proportional representation party in the recently concluded House of Representatives elections.

Both were elected to the House of Representatives through the proportional representation system by the National Independent Party (NIP).

With this, Anushka Shrestha has become the first Miss Nepal to become a federal MP. Anushka is the winner of Miss Nepal 2019. Earlier, the Nepal Cancer Prevention Foundation had published Anushka’s photo in the 2082 BS calendar with the message ‘Cancer can be cured, let’s treat it early’. She has now expressed her happiness after becoming a federal MP.

She is not only active in beauty pageants but also in social messaging and public awareness campaigns. Now that she has reached a place where she can shape the future of the country and its people, she is even more excited. She says, “I will always raise the voice of the people. I will also raise the issue of women’s rights in Parliament.”
