Kathmandu. A new documentary film, ‘The Everest Dream’, based on the inspiring Everest trek of people from Scotland, UK, who suffered from traumatic brain injury (severe brain injury), has been completed. The film, which was made after about a year and a half of hard work, has been directed by director and journalist Ganesh Pandey.
The film tells the story of the extraordinary dreams of some people struggling with life after a serious accident. Doctors told them it would be difficult for them to walk, speak, or live a normal life again, they refused to give up and came to Nepal with the goal of reaching Everest Base Camp.
The film depicts their journey, which began in Scotland, their arrival in Kathmandu, and then their difficult but emotional journey through the Khumbu region to Everest Base Camp.
Despite the challenges of altitude, fatigue, and health during the journey, they try to move forward with each other and with the help of Sherpa guides. There are also some challenging moments during the journey, such as one member getting separated from the group for a while and another member having to stop before reaching base camp due to health problems.
According to director Pandey, this film gives the message that even after a brain injury, one can have new dreams in life. This is the first time that such patients have climbed Mount Everest collectively. Led by James Lamb of The Little Sherpa Foundation, seven people, including five patients and their families, reached the Everest Base Camp.
Director Pandey himself faced challenges while making the documentary. He himself had to return by helicopter after running out of oxygen while approaching the Everest base camp. The documentary is set to premiere at the Nepal International Film Festival (NIF) in Kathmandu on April 5. Director Pandey said that the film will then be screened at various international film festivals around the world.
Associate producer Sharda Gaire, camerapersons Suresh Shrestha and Neeraj Panthi, editor Ishwar Koirala, music composers Jugal Dangol and Sandeep Sardar, and narrator Kaushal Ghimire have contributed to the film’s production. Director Pandey has expressed his gratitude to all the team members who helped in the production of the film.
