Kathmandu- The Oscars 2026, considered the most prestigious in the world film industry, will be held on March 15 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, USA. In Nepal, it is said that this ceremony can be watched from 4:30 am on March 16. Like every year, this time too, the audience is waiting for the ceremony.

This ceremony, considered a great honor in the film industry, has had some controversial incidents in the past that have garnered much attention.

The 2022 ceremony was marred by controversy after actor Will Smith slapped host Chris Rock on stage. Smith went on stage and slapped him after Rock joked about Will Smith’s wife’s head. Shortly after, Will Smith accepted the award for best actor for the film “King Richard” and apologized from the stage.

Controversy also erupted at the 2021 ceremony when French actress Corinne Masserio stripped off on stage to protest the French government. She was seen removing her clothes after she went up on stage to receive her award, with various slogans written on her body.

The incident of a mistake in announcing the best film in 2017 also caused a lot of controversy. Although the film ‘La La Land’ was initially announced as the name, the organizers apologized after some time, informing that the actual winner was the film ‘Moonlight’. Controversy also erupted in 2003 when actor Adrien Brody kissed actress Halle Berry on stage while accepting an award. Brody had won the Best Actor award for the film The Pianist.

In 2000, a truck carrying 55 awards was stolen about 20 days before the ceremony. A new award was then hastily prepared. A few days later, 52 awards were found in a pile of garbage, but the rest are still missing. Another famous incident involves actor Marlon Brando, who was robbed at gunpoint after receiving his Best Actor award for the film On the Waterfront.

Similarly, an Oscar was given to actor Leonardo DiCaprio as a gift, but he had to return the award to the awarding body after an investigation into fraud. Similarly, at the 2000 ceremony, actress Angelina Jolie was widely criticized for publicly kissing her own brother on the red carpet. These incidents have occasionally caused controversy and discussion at the awards ceremony.
