Kathmandu- World-famous American pop singer Britney Spears will not have to serve jail time for the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Her lawyer, 44, appeared in court on Monday and accepted guilt for a less serious offense, namely ‘reckless driving,’ which granted her this relief. Spears herself was not required to be present in court for this hearing.
According to international news agencies, On March 4, she was arrested by police after driving her BMW car at high speed and in an uncontrolled manner on a California highway. After the incident, Spears admitted herself to a rehabilitation center.
Her representatives had commented on the incident as ‘completely inexcusable.’ Britney’s lawyer, Michael Goldstein, issued a statement saying that Britney took responsibility for her behavior and that she has taken significant steps to bring about positive change in herself.
According to the District Attorney’s office, Spears was charged with a less serious offense because she has no prior criminal record, there was no accident or injury to anyone, and the alcohol content in her blood was also found to be low.
According to Goldstein, Spears will now have to remain on probation for 12 months, attend special classes for those who drive under the influence of alcohol, and pay fines and fees.
Spears, who gained worldwide fame in the field of pop music, achieved fame at a young age. Her songs like ‘Baby One More Time,’ ‘Toxic,’ and ‘Womanizer’ dominated charts worldwide.
Previously, she was under the conservatorship of her father for 13 years, where her personal and financial life was completely under control. Only in 2021 did she win a legal battle and gain freedom from that control.
