Kathmandu. The Embassy of India in Kathmandu paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Asha Bhosle by organizing a special musical evening on Friday as part of its regular cultural series, ‘Kala Samvad’. The event commemorated her unparalleled contributions to both Indian and Nepali music, highlighting her enduring musical legacy.
The event, held in honor of Asha Bhosle, who passed away in Mumbai on April 12 at the age of 92, saw a significant presence of prominent Nepali musicians and cultural figures. She passed away while undergoing treatment at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, leaving music lovers worldwide in shock.
At the special ceremony held in Kathmandu, the renowned Nepali musical group Sur Sudha and music teachers from the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre performed timeless songs sung by Asha Bhosle. The audience was moved as artists performed songs from various genres, remembering her versatile singing style.
The program underscored how the timeless melodies she contributed, particularly to Nepali music, have deepened the cultural ties between Nepal and India.
Known as the ‘Voice of Versatility’ in Bollywood, Asha Bhosle recorded nearly 12,000 songs over her eight-decade-long musical journey. From romantic ballads to cabaret, and classical to pop music, the magic of her voice remains highly influential. A Grammy nominee, she brought global pride to Indian music.
