Kathmandu. Bollywood Actress Nora Fatehi is facing mounting legal pressure due to the use of obscene lyrics in the song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri’ from the Kannada film ‘KD: The Devil’. After failing to appear for a hearing at India’s National Commission for Women on April 6, the commission expressed strong disapproval and has granted her a final opportunity to appear on April 27.
Commission Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar warned that the dignity of women cannot be compromised in the name of creative expression. During the hearing, lyricist Rakib Alam, director Prem, and representatives of the production team appeared and submitted a written apology.
They acknowledged that the song’s lyrics were offensive and had a negative impact on society, committing to work for women’s empowerment for the next three months and submit a report to the commission. The commission was further angered when Nora sent a lawyer instead of appearing in person. The commission has also issued a summons to actor Sanjay Dutt to appear on April 8 to provide a statement regarding the matter.
Following the escalation of the controversy, Nora Fatehi clarified that she was misled during the filming of the song. She claimed that she was provided with an incorrect translation in Kannada during the shoot and that the Hindi version was released using AI technology without her consent.
She stated that she only became aware of the Hindi lyrics at the song’s launch event and was shocked upon hearing them. She further noted that she agrees the lyrics are inappropriate.
The pan-India film ‘KD: The Devil’ is scheduled for release on April 30. The song, which features Nora and Sanjay Dutt, was released on March 14.
Upon its release on YouTube, the song faced intense criticism on social media for its obscene lyrics and dance style. Following widespread protests and complaints, the song has now been removed from YouTube.
